When Les Paul was only 10 years old, he had this dilemma. He just mastered the use of harmonica but found true love with the guitar but he didn’t want to choose between the two instruments. What he did is: he invented the harmonica holder thing that we see today. That way, he could play the harmonica and the guitar at the same time.
Les Paul was a genius in his own right and his humility has blessed him so much up until the time he died from pneumonia. He said that he never strived to be a world – famous inventor; most of his inventions were out of necessities, like he has no choice but create a solution to a problem. His hands are always busy working and tinkering something, it is in his nature to tinker stuff and most of the time, he produces great results.
Like the time he created the Log (the first les Paul), he was so disappointed with all the electro acoustic guitars that re present around, because of the humming and the feedbacks. This is the reason why he, once again tinkered and created improvements resulting to the creation of the first hollow bodied electric guitar that would be the father of all electric guitars. The Les Paul Standard.
A little trivia for you boys and girls out there: Les Paul also invented the multi-track recorder.
